Julia Markovitz, LMFT
Hi, there! Here’s a little bit about me…
I’ve wanted to be a therapist since I was a teenager and I still can’t imagine doing anything else. It is such a great privilege to hear your life stories. I think it takes a lot of bravery to walk into my office and share your inner thoughts and feelings with me, especially if you haven’t experienced a lot of empathic listening in your life. As a fellow frequenter of the couch myself, I know how fucking hard it can be! And also, how deeply meaningful. Through my own journey of healing from trauma and witnessing profound transformations in my clients, I bring more than just clinical tools to the therapeutic process.
We will work on identifying sustainable goals together, increasing somatic awareness, restoring your resiliency, and honoring your strengths. But most importantly, we will build a unique and supportive relationship, which will provide the foundation for growth and healing. In the spirit of Philly, I always aspire to bring a little quirkiness, grit, and humor to my work.
When I’m not in session, I usually have a cat on my lap (and sometimes while in session too!). I live in West Philadelphia and could eat Ethiopian food for nearly every meal. I also love dressing up for any themed gathering, hiking in the Wissahickon, reading long fantasy novels, and obsessing over my many houseplants.
